• Physical assessment and management of the critically ill
• Care of the mechanically and non invasive ventilated patient and care of ETT and securement devices and tracheostomy care
• Data interpretation and adjustment of provision of care as indicated - managing the deteriorating patient and escalating interventions as required
• Safe management and trouble shooting of invasive monitoring systems
• Safe management and operating of invasive and life saving therapies
• Rapid sequence intubation and assessment of extubation readiness
• Safe management of continuous renal replacement therapy
• Safe management of post operative cardiac pacing, intra aortic balloon pump and pulmonary artery catheter
• Safe collecting and interpretation of bloods to optimise gas exchange and electrolyte balance
• Safe management and titrating of inotropic and sedative drugs
• Safe administration of controlled drugs

Two year educational program with rotation through four intensive care settings including two general surgical units, cardio Thoracic and Neuro.

• Introduction to safely care for the critically unwell patients
• Thorough physical assessment and management of the critically unwell patient
• Receive care of rapid admissions of the deteriorating patients from the ward
• Safe care and management of varied and complex presentations including transplant, toxicology, neurovascular surgery, trauma, cardiothoracic surgery and patients with multi organ failure
• Safe transport of the critically unwell patient to other areas of the hospital

• Time management and ability to prioritise tasks
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide wholistic, patient centered care
• Team leader and progression to nurse in charge of the shift
• Provide care to patients with personal hygiene cares and activities of daily living
• Pain management and the safe use of PCA machines
• Fluid management and resuscitation
• Nutrition management for patients receiving TPN and electrolyte replacement
• Safe and respectful end of life cares
