Work History

Clinical Nurse Endoscopy Bookingss

Varsity lakes Day Hospital
Gold Coast, QLD
10.2023 - Current

Gold Coast, QLD,

10/2023 - Current

  • Current. I am part of a team at Varsity Lakes Day Hospital booking endoscopy procedures for patients requiring upper and lower endoscopic procedures.
  • This role involves assessing each patient prior to their booking to determine their suitability for treatment at the stand-alone day surgery facility.
  • I ensure all patients are booked following the guidelines of the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Service Implementation Standards (GESIS), as well as hospital protocols and procedures. This is to ensure each patient has fair and equitable access, while providing best practice processes.
  • I contribute within the team to ensure that patients are booked within the allotted time their category allows, and that the procedure rooms are utilized efficiently.
  • I also attend to any cancellations and rebook their procedure accordingly.
  • This role requires knowledge of electronic systems, including HBCIS, Systemview, Scheduling Appointment Book, and Telstra Messaging.
  • I effectively liaise with the doctors and the multidisciplinary teams involved in the patients' care.

Registered Nurse

Gold Coast University Hospital
Southport, QLD
11.2022 - 10.2023
  • I was part of the Day Surgery Unit's second stage recovery, where we discharged day surgery patients to home.
  • The role entails ensuring the patients are suitable to go home, ensuring discharge criteria are met, such as: they have a support person with them for 24 post general anaesthetic, as well as ensuring the patient has all their relevant documentation, such as a medical certificate, prescriptions, discharge instructions, and any planned outpatient appointment.
  • Recently, I have had the opportunity to learn the Coordinator/Clinical Nurse role within the Day Surgery Unit (2nd Phase Recovery), where I ensure discharge criteria are met, ensuring all their relevant postoperative information requested by the operating surgeons is noted on their discharge information and communicated to the patients, liaising with members of the multidisciplinary teams, and coordinating the areas where the patients coming from Phase 1 recovery are assigned to.
  • Instructed patients on proper self-care techniques at home following discharge from the hospital.
  • Documented patient progress notes accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record system.

  • Providing holistic care focused on the patient throughout their surgical journey is encouraged, using critical thinking and reflection.
  • In confirming the students' learning and assessment, I collaborate with practice partners within the specialty areas for their evaluation and feedback on the student's performance. For example, if they are motivated, eager to learn, and utilizing any educational opportunities made available to them.
  • I made sure the assessment process is in accordance with the Registered Nurse standards for practice.
  • I am familiar with the Australian Nursing Standards Assessment tool (ANSAT), and I have good communication skills.
  • Coached and mentored student nurses on best practices related to patient care within the perioperative environment.
