  • Monitored livestock health through mustering with my team of fit dogs, pasture measuring and constant checking of stock - escalating any concerns to the manager .
  • I was in charge of the hill blocks and mustering - Spending most days walking on the high hills, moving and checking stock.

home farm is where i learned most of my basic knowledge, we are 250Ha irrigated intensive farm in the canterbury plains where we ran 2000 ewes when i was younger and 50-70 ha of crop mainly cereals e.g. wheat, barley, oats, and peas occasionally as i grew up the farm has changed a lot with the introduction of center pivot irrigation and the dairy boom in the area the farm has changed to more of a dairy support/grazing farm where we grow fodder beet, Kale, oats and lots of grass for the R1 heifers and R2 heifers all year round and around 2000 head of dairy cows during the winter also we are still doing malt barley crops each season around 50ha in total averaging around 11 ton each year yield i have helped with harvest driving a grain cart and an old 1970s john Deere 1075 header that in more recent years has been doing less and lees work as it seems to be easier to employ contractors to do the harvest then it is to try and keep the old girl going!
