1ST YEAR STUDENT NURSE PLACEMENT

PENRITH, GOVERNOR PHILIP MANOR (AGED CARE)

As a student nurse at placement, I was required to complete 80 hours. I was able to learn how particular tasks are implemented in an aged care and I was able to gain the residents trust and deliver their needs.

  • Administered medications under the supervision by registered nurse.
  • Performed blood glucose level procedure to the residents.
  • Assessed and monitored vital signs such as blood pressure, oxygen saturation, heart rate and respiratory rate.
  • Monitored the residents’ progress.
  • Assisted residents with the daily activities such as communicating, eating, dressing and toileting.
  • Performed cleaning tasks such as tidying up the residents’ rooms, cleaning the kitchen and the lounge area.
  • Addressed the residents’ needs such as food, making them comfortable and keeping a good company.

2nd YEAR STUDENT NURSE PLACEMENT

THE HILLS PRIVATE HOSPITAL (REHABILITATION)

As a student nurse, I was required to complete 80 hours. I was able to learn how particular tasks are implemented in a rehabilitation hospital and I was able to gain the patients’ trust and deliver their needs.

  • Continuously assessed and monitored the physical and mental health status of patients. I monitored vital signs, pain levels, and progress in recovery, adapting care plans accordingly.
  • Wrote and updated patients’ progress notes.
  • Administrated regular medications to patients and managing side effects under the supervision of a registered nurse at a given time. As a student nurse, I monitored for efficacy and adverse reactions.
  • Assisted few of the patients with showering, toileting and dressing up for the day as they needed moderate to maximum assistance.
  • Tidied up the beds and made sure the rooms are clean.
  • Implemented ECG on patients with the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Assisted the registered nurse with the changing of the dressing wounds.
  • Delivered the patients’ needs throughout the day.
  • Provided psychological support yo patients, helping them cope with the challenges associated with their conditions.
