Abdullah Tahir

I am Cadet Warrant Officer Class 1 Abdullah Tahir, I'm 18 years of age and I am the Regimental Sergeant Major of Victoria in the Australian Army Cadets VIC BDE. I have recently just completed my Victorian Certificate of Education, achieving an ATAR of 89.25 and I am now commencing a Bachelors in Cybersecurity (Honours) at Deakin University's cloud campus.

Over the last three years, I have worked in a variety of different fields and have had the privilege to acquire many different skills and experiences along the way. I began my journey by working in the fast food industry, at McDonald’s Roxburgh Park, where I obtained one of the most senior positions in the store of Kitchen Crew Trainer while being one of the youngest employees, just fifteen years old. I was in this position for about eight months until I decided to transition into the education industry, where I decided to entail a position as a tutor at Hunar Tuition Services. I was able to gather over 140 hours of teaching experience in this role over a period of just under a year, where I taught students of all year levels and abilities, including VCE classes too. In June 2023, I left my teaching position to attain my role as a Customer Service Manager at Airborn Airpark, where I currently work at the moment. Some of my duties at Airborn involve resolving irregularities and customer conflicts/complaints. I also conduct safety inspections of the venue, create daily run-sheets for the coordination of staff and mentor all employees in terms of customer service and ensure compliance towards company guidelines is upheld.

Besides working for different companies in a variety of industries, I have been in the Australian Army Cadets for the last three years, which has built most of my fundamental skills. I have a number of qualifications to my name through the Australian Defence Force including all three leadership courses available in cadets. I have been able to work myself up from a Section Commander in 2021, to a Platoon Commander in 2022, and now the Regimental Sergeant Major of Sirius College Army Cadet Unit, where I am in charge of over 150 cadets at my unit alone and hold the most senior position. Furthermore, I have been in charge of running the last two leadership courses for the Victorian Brigade as the Course Sergeant Major, being responsible for over 150 candidates. Yet again, I have been given the honour to run another leadership course at the end of this year as the Course Sergeant Major, in charge of over 300 candidates. Moreover, I am a recipient of the Adventure Training Award (ATA 2022) from the Australian Army, an award which only goes to the most fierce after completing the toughest field exercise that our army has to offer, making me a part of the top 1% of all cadets in Australia.

I’m driven to gain new experiences in a wide variety of fields and keen to explore what the different industries that surround our lives have to offer. I have a vision, and that is to work hard, with purpose, to make a difference for tomorrow.
