- This workshop enhanced my understanding of how non-physical abuses such as emotional manipulation, financial control, and isolation can be used to dominate and harm victims. I learned to identify these subtle signs and gained insight into their long-term psychological impact on both adults and children. The workshop also emphasised the importance of trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice and highlighted the social worker’s role in risk assessment, safety planning, and multidisciplinary collaboration. This learning has strengthened my ability to support clients experiencing coercive control.
- In this workshop, I gained a deeper understanding of the diverse and non-linear nature of grief, recognising that it extends beyond death to include losses such as identity, health, relationships, and culture. I learned the importance of a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach, acknowledging that grief is experienced differently across cultures and can be compounded by past trauma. The workshop emphasised the power of presence—holding space through active listening and empathy without rushing to fix or advise. It also highlighted the need for self-awareness and emotional resilience as a social worker, reminding me to maintain boundaries and practice self-care to sustainably support others through their grief.
