Mechanical Project Engineer

Industrial Plastics Pty Ltd
08.2020 - Current

I am responsible for overseeing a diverse range of projects within the mining, HVAC, water treatment, and chemical industries. My role involves the following key responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Leading and managing projects focused on the design, fabrication, and installation of custom-fabricated storage tanks made of HDPE, PVC, and Polypropylene adhering to DVS Standards.
  • The scope encompasses an array of tank types, such as sodium hypochlorite tanks, Insulated glycol tanks, chilled water for HVAC, clarifier's, agitation tanks, etc.
  • Ensuring seamless execution of projects from inception to completion, including planning, resource allocation, timeline management, and quality control.

Engineering and Design Contributions

  • Developing inspection and test plans (ITPs), inspection and test checksheets (ITCs), material certificates, non-conformance and corrective action reports, and risk registers.
  • Load calculations (medium-long and short-acting loads) for round tanks include wind loads, input for pressures, and roof load calculations.
  • Design calculations for lifting lugs and bolt-down feet for different tank sizes,
Diameter calculation of lifting lug hole, thickness determination of lifting lugs, and proposing the number of lugs based on tank dry weight.
  • Engage in the preparation of shop detail drawings, inclusive of individual component details, assembly details, and marking plans, inclusive of complete bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Engaging in the new product development stages: coordinating clients, design teams, and fabricators during the design iteration process and optimizing the process for quicker delivery Product types include polycarbonate machine guards, tank trucks, and acrylic tanks for marine applications.

Process Piping System Project Estimation:

  • Serving as the lead project estimator for projects involving HDPE, PVC, and PP pipe spool onsite fabrication.
  • Utilizing comprehensive expertise to accurately assess project scope, materials, labor, and associated costs for successful project bids.

Product Knowledge Expertise:

  • Demonstrating in-depth product knowledge concerning HDPE geomembrane liners, Geocell systems, and geotextiles and geogrids.
  • Advising clients on the selection, implementation, and benefits of these specialized products for optimal project outcomes, ranging from sealing solutions to slope stabilization.

Engineering Plastics Expertise:

  • Demonstrating proficiency in a wide range of engineering plastics, including Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), nylon, acetal, HDPE, polypropylene, and PEEK.
  • Applying engineering plastics in various applications, such as wear pads crafted from UHMWPE for enhanced equipment lifespan, acetal components for friction reduction, and utilizing PEEK for its exceptional high-temperature and chemical resistance properties.
  • Overseeing the implementation of polycarbonate machine guards that ensure operational safety while maintaining process visibility.
