As part of my Masters degree in Occupational Therapy, I completed a unit in semester 2 of 2024 called "Allied Health Research ". For this unit, I was required to conduct a scoping review based on a specific allocated topic. Allocated Topic: What is the best practice assessment of post-traumatic amnesia in older adults following a traumatic brain injury in an acute patient setting?
For this unit we were required to find a workplace and complete two assessments. I selected the Tucker Fresh Exchange IGA at Curtin University. I completed an engagement in learning report. A Job Task Analysis form was completed for the client after the accident based on their workplace responsibilities whilst also considering their injuries. Workplace hazards were identified. A risk assessment and a controls report were conducted within the workplace environment. Completed certificates for the WA Workcover modules. Described return to work issues for the client using the Model of Human Occupation in detail. Created a Graduated Return to Work Program for the client. Created case management strategies for the client when gradually moving through the graduated return to work program. Completed an office ergonomics report for the client.
Worked with allocated clients (older adults). Conducted a 30 min interview and observed the clients engaged in an activity to build an occupational Profile. Completed an initial standardised occupational therapy assessment based on the interview conducted and the observations from the activity. Created a PEOP model based on the information obtained from the interview. Explored clients engagement, participation, and performance in meaningful occupations through occupational therapy assessments (COPM, MOHOST, activity card sort, occupational therapy analysis, and leisure interest checklist). Explored clients barriers and enablers. Set meaningful occupational goals for clients. Developed an intervention plan relevant to each of the clients occupational goals and their practice context. Designed an OT group session plan and an individual session plan. Completed a concise progress note (SOAP) after the session. Wrote a brief summary evaluating the outcome of the intervention session using appropriate outcome measures with clinical reasoning supporting why the session was effective/not effective. Provided a handover document to the older adults (clients) and the site representative and concluded relationship.
