• Technically, performing both routine and complex diagnostic Pulmonary Function Testing on both inpatients and outpatients
• Tests performed: Spirometry (pre/post bronchodilator), Lung Volumes (both Nitrogen Washout and Plethysmography techniques), Diffusing Capacity, MIPS/MEPS, Methacholine Challenge Testing, 6 Minute Walk Test, CPET & Exercise Challenge testing
• PFT Equipment Used: Carefusion Encore Vmax 229 (incl V62J Body Box + CPET)
• Responsible for procurement of major medical diagnostic equipment in line with operational requirements of the Department

• In-service training for Medical Residents on complete PFT testing and nursing staff on the use of portable spirometers within the hospital for bedside testing.

• Wards include General, Surgical, Maternity, Day Surgery, Recovery and ICU Lung Function Unit: Provides a diagnostic testing facility for adults and children presenting with a range of respiratory disorders
• Duties: Performing the full range of diagnostic PFT tests using the Jaeger lung function equipment
• Daily calibration checks of testing equipment and troubleshooting when required
• Participation in Quality Assurance activities in accordance with ATS standards
• Supervision of laboratory when required.
