I've been working in hospitality for the past 10 years, since I left high school. I honestly love it. I love being around people having a chat and a laugh. One day I hope to open up my own place. However, I believe this is something I need to do first. Recently I reconnected with a high school mate (Jordan Green) who joined the Army and I also met a man on the Cadre camp at The Mill gym this past weekend (Lachie Day) who is in the army also. The incredible men that they are has inspired me to also undertake this. During the camp I was watching Lachie and he was so dependable, he would always put his hand up first to do a crummy job. He would put everyone else before himself regardless of how tired or uncomfortable he was. He didn't complain once and was still able to crack jokes to lighten the mood for everyone. I see a man like that and I think to myself I absolutely have to become someone like that. I want people to be able to look at me and think the same things that I think when I see someone like him. I believe that pressure makes diamonds. I believe that Army can help expose me to that kind of pressure to help me grow to become a man like Lachie and Jordan.
That was my third time doing The Cadre Camp at The Mill. The first time I didn't finish. The second time I finished but I didn't get positive feedback. This time I finished and I got positive feedback. It took me a few tries but I got there in the end. I'm a big believer in failing forward. This highlights something about me - probably the one quality of mine that I'm most proud of - regardless of how bad I fail, I always come back for more.
