Unit Commander (Hunter Region)

  • Responsible for the re-establishment of the Hunter Region Unit to an operational standard
  • Implemented a recruitment and training program to ensure an appropriately equipped and trained Incident Management Team would be available to assist other SES Units within the Hunter Valley and state wide, including interstate if required
  • Ensure the day-to-day management and operations of the Hunter Region Unit as an operationally effective team
  • Supervised, lead and mentored a team of 25+ personnel.

Local Area Commander (Port Stephens)

  • Managed emergency operations and resources of the Port Stephens Local Government Area, overseeing a team of 100+ Emergency Service officers and volunteers
  • Officer In Charge of the Road Crash Rescue Unit, coving an area from Thornton to Anna Bay, Tea Gardens to Stockton
  • This was the only operational SES Road Crash Rescue Unit in the Hunter Valley
  • Operations Commander of the Botany and Randwick areas during the Sydney Hailstorms (2000)
  • Managed the operations and field teams numbering 1500 personnel
  • Lead operations in numerous flood and storm events locally, state wide and interstate including the 'Pasha Bulka' storm (2007); Northern NSW Floods (2011); Cyclone Yasi (2011)
  • Planned and lead the logistical and aerial support operations to the Rural Fire Service, Port Stephens Fires (2013)
  • Developed plans and strategies to improve the safety of the local community, the visitors and businesses within Port Stephens
  • Completed and implemented the Port Stephens Local Flood Plan including the development of the flood intelligence and warning systems currently in place
  • Assisted in the design and implementation of the Traffic Offenders Program in the Hunter Region and lectured on crash causation and avoidance for 16 years
  • Personally developed the designed and implemented the 'Roadwise' driver education program into local schools throughout the Hunter Valley
  • Developed and maintained relationships with local businesses, organisations, and community groups
  • Worked closely with the Port Stephens Council during flood and storm events to provide a comprehensive operational and recovery response to the community
  • Until 2015, I was the longest continuous serving member of the Local Emergency Management Committee where I provided comprehensive reports and advice on improvements to community safety and wellbeing.
