Moving to WA this year started my journey into aged care nursing. I have advanced my palliative care skills, identifying deteriorating residents, and pain management skills. This position taught me to work well under pressure. Taught me how to communicate with families. This job meant working closely with the multidisciplinary team. One main skill was advocating for residents. Overall, being an in-charge nurse meant learning to delegate the most important tasks.
Working at the Hamilton Base Hospital on the surgical and medical ward taught many skills, key ones being wound management, pre/post op care of many surgical procedures, diabetes management, medication administration, and effective communication. Working in a rural hospital left nurses with a large responsibility. This responsibility taught me how to be adaptable to changing environments.
Nursing rural showed importance in confidentiality and patient's privacy.
Working as a disability support worker taught me to adapt to continually changing environments. Different communication techniques were essential. Completing morning ADL's and lightening the load for parents was an essential part of this role.
This role was an Assistant in Nursing at the Ballarat Base Hospital, working on the surgical ward and in ECT treatment. This role taught me how to communicate effectively with a diverse group of patients. Being an AIN meant knowing how to work effectively in a team.
