Aleesha Diaco

• Independent management of ventilated clients in the community; troubleshooting ventilator alarms and faults
• Tracheostomy care and management; including independent changes
• Competent in client assessment and identifying early deterioration
• Providing education for fellow colleagues, clients and families
• Advocating for clients and their autonomy, and being able to follow policy and procedure to ensure safety

• Managing a 25 bed step-down cardiac unit with 10 telemetry beds
• Attending to rostering responsibilities, handover charting and supporting the Nurse Unit Manager with management and education tasks
• Building rapport and liaising directly with consultants while overseeing the care and management of their patients
• Imparting knowledge to staff as well as promoting and conducting education sessions, particularly in the areas of cardiac and respiratory

• Undertaking a Transition to Specialty Program in 2017, which led to the successful completion of a Post Graduate Degree in Advanced Nursing Practice (Intensive Care Stream) 2018
• Caring for critically ill patients requiring ventilation, haemofiltration, sepsis management and post-operative intervention
• Providing education and support to nursing students as a preceptor; including report and assessment finalisation

Emergency Department Stream Rotation

• Learning to perform rapid primary assessment, detailed secondary assessment and focused assessment skills
• Ability to identify early deterioration in both adults and paediatrics
• Interpreting patient test results and updating the physicians, as well as assisting in developing ongoing management plans

Complex Surgery Stream Rotation

• Consisting of the following specialty areas; Plastics, Ears, Nose and Throat, Maxofacial and Gynaecology
• Developing exquisite wound care knowledge and management including the use of negative pressure devices and dressings
• Monitoring first day skin graft and tracheostomy patients from the intensive care unit in the high dependency area
