COMMUNICATION

During my Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree, I have developed strong verbal and written communication skills through both academic and practical settings. An example was during a group livestock handling practical where I was tasked with coordinating safe movement of sheep in a pen for weighing. I communicated instructions clearly to my friends while also listening to their input and ensuring everyone understood the handling procedures and welfare considerations. As a result, the task was completed efficiently and safely, with positive feedback from the supervisor about our calm, coordinated approach.
In addition to verbal communication, I have refined my written skills through scientific report writing. For example, in a research assignment evaluating the effect of diet on Merino wethers, I presented complex data clearly using charts and structured discussion. This report was commended for its clarity and logical flow, demonstrating my ability to tailor information for different audiences.
Through these experiences, I have shown I can adapt communication to suit both technical and practical contexts. I can explain complex animal science concepts, provide clear instructions in welfare settings, and collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

ORGANISATION

Balancing a double major in Animal Health and Animal Science  while studying on the side at TAFE has required a high level of organisation to meet academic and practical demands. For example, during a semester where I had multiple laboratory reports, livestock practicals, and exam preparation, I needed to manage my time efficiently to meet all requirements. I created a structured weekly planner to prioritise tasks, made large assignments into smaller milestones, and scheduled regular study and revision times. As a result, I consistently submitted all assessments on time, achieving strong results across units while maintaining practical commitments such as livestock handling sessions and placements at veterinary clinics. Another example of organisational ability was in the field when assisting in livestock handling classes. Preparing equipment, ensuring correct biosecurity measures, and working to a set timetable required attention to detail and planning. My preparation allowed sessions to run smoothly without delays, ensuring both animal welfare and student safety. These experiences have strengthened my ability to prioritise, manage time effectively, and work with precision in dynamic environments. I am confident I can apply these organisational skills to support Harvest Road Group’s welfare programs, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.

TEAMWORK

Teamwork has been central to my university studies and animal handling experiences. During a group project analysing the growth rate of Merino wethers on different diets. We were grouped into 6 and had to feed the wethers for 3 days, my role was to coordinate data collection and ensure accuracy in recording food weights. I collaborated with my peers by dividing responsibilities fairly, checking each other’s work, and offering support when challenges arose. This collaboration resulted in accurate data collection, a high quality report, and positive feedback from our lecturer on our teamwork and professionalism.
Similarly, in livestock handling classes, working safely with animals required constant cooperation. For example, when moving sheep into yards, I worked with classmates to position ourselves strategically, communicating calmly and supporting less confident team members. This ensured the task was completed efficiently with minimal stress on the animals, demonstrating both teamwork and welfare awareness. Through these experiences, I have learned the value of active listening, flexibility, and supporting others to achieve shared goals. I enjoy working in collaborative environments and believe my ability to foster positive teamwork will allow me to contribute effectively to Harvest Road’s Animal Welfare team.
