While still being a cafe, MCEC is a completely different environment to any other place I've worked. Rather than being off a main street, or inside a shopping centre it's clientele are predominantly clients of the company and delegates/ attendees from onsite events - as well as staff from our offices. As a result, presentation and quality of products and service are imperative. My role as a barista here also differed from other cafes, as I would also diagnose issues and fix/ re-calibrate coffee machines, grinders, and a wine dispensing machine.
Working with Starbucks I built skills such as stocktake, upselling merchandise, and using product knowledge to assist customers deciding on a non-negotiable part of their day. Starbucks is a company known professionally for its customer interactions, which paired with my already amicable nature and previous experience prepares me for every situation I encountered here.
Working at Spudbar simultaneously to Donut King not only reinforces the skills I use for both such as customer service and end of day tasks like cleaning, but also has given me a better sense of time management.
