I joined the Sodexo team back in January of 2020. I started of at a site called Yandicoogina and was placed in house keeping. I had already had some previous experience in housekeeping from working in motels. However these conditions were much different as the heat took a bit of getting used too. Through out i managed to stick it out for the next six months.
Six months later I'm still at the same camp but now I'm in the kitchen. Working in the kitchen was much cooler, working indoors with air-conditioning, and stepping inside the fridges and freezers when changing stock or doing a tidy up. I loved working in the kitchen and one of my favourite things was getting my LV VOC. This gave me a little bit of freedom as was given the task of taking return to work packs out to site.
When the opportunity to drive buses became a choice, I jumped at it. The choice between seeing the same four walls every day or the big wide open space, well there is no contest. When i passed my bus driving assessment I was told I would be moving on to another camp. This made me a little nervous as i had made some really good friends at Yandi and was a little sad to say goodbye.
Coming to Jerriwah.
It took a bit of getting use to being at a new camp, but i was made to feel welcome. i have made new friends and some old have joined me now.
Coming to Jerriwah I already had my forklift ticket. Since being VOCed I have helped out on truck day unloading the truck and back loading.
November 2023, I stepped into a leading Hand role. I have gained new skills, e.g organising jobs for my team, doing pre-starts and making sure my team is fit for work. Making sure my team makes it home safe at the end of their swing.
I recently achieved my Trainer Assessor certificate. This allows me to pass out team members in vehicles, cardboard crusher, forklift etc.
Never in a million years would i have thought this is what im going to be doing some day, but here I am, and i am very proud of the person i am today.
The only thing for me now is to keep moving forward
