  • Worked independently as a solo scientist responsible for all 3 departments during night shifts.
  • Experienced with the operation, maintenance and trouble shooting of haematology Sysmex XN and SP-10 analysers, coagulation Stago MAX and Biochemistry Roche Cobas 1000.
  • Optimised sample processing work flows and turn around times to ensure critical results are provided to clinical staffs in a timely manner.
  • Trained and provided guidance to junior scientists and technicians when out of the ordinary issues arise.
  • Reviewed test results and ensured their validity, rejecting or questioning sample integrity due to sample issues such as contamination or inappropriate collections by identifying unexpected and nonsensical results.

  • Identified antibodies using cell panels and performed more complex testing such as autoadsorption, elution or papain when necessary for antibodies investigation.
  • Managed massive transfusion either in a team or independently.
  • Biochemistry: routine reviewed of test results, notified and verified critical results to the relevant clinicians and chemical pathologists.
  • Performed daily routine QCs and calibrations and reviewed using Unity.
  • Validated new Biotin resistant AFP for use in the lab
  • Verified higher haemolysis index cut off for Potassium and AST to reduce sample rejections, especially when these values may be critical.
  • Haematology: routine reviewed of FBC, coagulation studies and blood film morphology, Kleihauer screen, bone marrow staining and iron stains for bone marrow.
  • Identified serious blood disorder that requires haematologists' immediate attention such as acute leukaemia, haemolytic anaemia, etc...
