Work History

Medical Receptionist

Cardiology Associates
02.2021 - Current
  • Booking and managing patient appointments and procedures – Majority of this role is patient focused where I am required to book appointments face to face or via telephone or email. Effective communication is vital as often the Cardiologist will require an appointment for the patient within a specific time frame and requiring specific testing. On occasion, I am asked to book patients in for procedures which rely on accurate data entry and communication between myself, the patient, and the hospital. Quite often I will be contacted by external specialists and GPs looking to book urgent appointments for patients, in which case I try to understand the patient’s needs and symptoms and negotiate an appropriate appointment with them, and at times I am required to relay information to the Cardiologist to gauge their capacity for urgent patients.
  • Diary management for Cardiologists and technicians – As there are a variety of appointment types within the practice, it is important that I am looking ahead at patient lists to ensure all bookings are made correctly for my assigned Cardiologist and the appropriate technicians. I am also required to ensure any pending results have been received and are ready for review during the patient appointment.
  • Document control for electronic correspondence being received to the practice – I am responsible for receiving and delegating correspondence received to the practice via efax, email, and electronic download and ensuring all correspondence is dealt with according. This requires a great deal of attention to detail as all correspondence is confidential and it is vital it is assigned to the correct patient file. I also receive referrals which can be urgent and need to be assessed by the Cardiologists. Time management is critical in this role, as I must determine which documents require immediate attention whilst juggling phone calls in a busy phone room as well as my daily and weekly tasks. I am also required to complete any requests for information that may be asked of me by fellow colleagues or Cardiologists.
  • Assisting Cardiac technicians with Holter and blood pressure monitors, and performing ECGs for practitioners where necessary – this particular role requires me to understand a variety of computer programs that are unique to each device and must be set up correctly to ensure data is received correctly, and assigned to the correct patient.
