  • In my role as a Teacher of the deaf at St Mary’s College for the Deaf, I support the holistic development of deaf and hard of hearing students, many of whom have additional disabilities My responsibilities directly align with principles of child and adolescent mental health, including early intervention, inclusive education, and collaborative care
  • Take responsibility for a core group of students, developing Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) and participating in Parent Support Group (PSG) meetings to ensure individual needs are met
  • Implement adjustments and targeted interventions that support both learning and emotional wellbeing
  • Respond to the social, emotional, and behavioural needs of students, including those with complex profiles, within inclusive mainstream settings
  • Deliver explicit instruction aligned with the Victorian Curriculum and the Expanded Core Curriculum for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students, ensuring accessibility and engagement
  • Use differentiated teaching strategies informed by data and evidence-based practice to support diverse learners
  • Apply a cycle of inquiry to assess and refine teaching approaches, integrating wellbeing goals into academic planning
  • Liaise regularly with families, allied health professionals, and partner school staff to monitor student progress and coordinate support
  • Provide guidance to classroom teachers on appropriate modifications and adjustments to promote inclusion and wellbeing
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on improving student outcomes through collaborative data analysis and shared expertise
  • Respond sensitively to the pastoral care needs of students and their families, fostering trust and emotional safety
  • Implement strategies from the St Mary’s Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework, promoting respectful relationships and self-regulation
  • Support students through career and transition planning, addressing both educational and psychosocial goals
