I worked here shortly before arriving in Australia, gaining retail experience in a large farm shop with multiple departments. I assisted in maintaining store appearance by merchandising, stocking shelves, organizing displays, and ensuring cleanliness of the shop floor. I also worked the deli, where it was expected that the staff are knowledgeable about all the locally sourced produce to provide assistance.
Twelve Triangles is a sourdough bakery and specialty coffee shop with 7 branches across Edinburgh. I had a base location in one suburb, but after becoming a trusted member of staff I worked across all locations. Therefore, I quickly became efficient at working in an unfamiliar workplace to a high and consistent standard. I was provided with extensive product and coffee training, and it was expected of me to be knowledgeable about all aspects of the business. The business was very busy, especially during high volume periods such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, therefore a calm demeanor was essential.
Being a local, family owned business it was of great importance to be friendly and helpful. The pace was very fast and quality standards high. When working FOH, responsibilities included preparing specialty coffee/drinks and taking orders. In the kitchen, prepping and making high volume of toasties.
At the St Andrews Student Union cafe my roles included making hot drinks, serving customers, working the till and preparing food. I regularly closed the cafe where i was trusted cashing up large amounts of money. I additionally worked catering events for the company such as weddings and student balls that were hosted in the union.
