• AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS , Won the People’s Choice Award in the Victoria University 3-Minute Thesis Competition held in September 2017. • Carried out several formulations and detailed investigations, and also demonstrated, the utility of several agricultural products/wastes materials as base matrices for bio-inspired fire retardants for ligno- cellulosic materials. Conducted detailed kinetic analysis of starch- based substrates. Established correlations among the relevant parameters obtained from the TGA, PCFC and cone calorimeter experiments. Identified ICP/OES and solid-state NMR (31P) as reliable techniques to gauge the incorporation of phosphorous (both in terms of quantity and quality) in phosphorylated starch substrates. Explored in detail, condensed and vapour phase activities of formulations using some standard and ‘hyphenated techniques’ including Raman spectrometry, solid-state NMR (31P), ICP/OES, GC/MS, Pyrolysis-GC/MS etc. Devised a ‘dip test’ methodology that can be extensively used as a quick laboratory screening test to gauge the efficacies of fire proofing formulations for different polymeric materials.
