  • Administer IV antibiotics to mothers and babies on the ward.
  • Perform sterile dressings on women who have had a Caesarean and have been re-admitted with a wound infection.
  • Administer IV Ferrinject to women with low Hb.
  • Arrange X-Referral of Midwifery Care on Discharge for the mother going home. Contact the MSP Team of another hospital to arrange ongoing care when the mother goes home.
  • Arrange Referral and follow-up care of: Lactation Consultant, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Perinatal Mental Health and Bladder Care Nurse.
  • Discuss Care Plan of woman with the Interpreter (Language) Service and the new mother - advise RMO and Paediatrician - so that they can speak with the new mother and her partner too.
  • Holistic plan of care - to involve the woman and her partner/and family at all times.
