My substantive position is as a Clinical Nurse for Access Services- Mental Health which incorporates ACT and CIS. But I have been fortunate in being given the opportunity to work in an Acting CNC position, at Adult Step Up Step Down and in the QAS CoRe and QPS CoRe relief, as well as acting up in the ACT CNC to cover leave as and when needed.
I am a QLD Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP), enacting the Mental Health Act in accordance with the 2016 QLD MHA, utilising least restrictive, recovery orientated practices
Having worked in Access Services MHATODS since moving to Cairns in October 2020, I continue to reflect how my professional values align with that of CHHHS. I believe my strengths lie in compassion and respect, as I have received consistent feedback from colleagues and consumers that I am a good listener and maintain quality communication. I gained a proven good working relationships with both QAS and QPS and have been able to uphold Queensland Health Values by applying the National Safety and Quality Health Service standards to all areas of my clinical practice, and contributing to safe clinical governance through reporting, escalation and communication within the multidisciplinary teams.
I have worked in various mental health positions in the UK and Australia as a senior mental health nurse/clinician in leadership roles and feel I am therefore uniquely qualified to adapt to any setting within this distinct sector.

• Work collaboratively with QAS/QPS to enhance the capacity of all services to effectively respond to individuals who may have a mental illness and come to the attention of emergency services.
• Complete independent complex mental health assessments with a focus on dynamic risks, providing brief interventions and making onward relevant referrals in collaboration with QAS/QPS.
• Empowering mental health consumers to utilise current strengths and supports, thus helping to alleviate need for EEA and ED presentations.
• Act as a reference point for other clinicians in the Mental Health Service regarding liaison with QAS/QPS and complex community mental health assessments and brief intervention.
• Work collaboratively with the Mental Health Intervention Coordinator (MHIC) to coordinate training opportunities for mental health staff, police, ambulance and other agencies.
• The role of Mental Health Clinician conducts triage, mental health assessment, short term treatment and recovery support to consumers accessing health services for acute mental health issues at an entry point to the mental health service. Also provision of therapeutic interventions.
