Throughout my career, I've worked with major mining companies such as Rio Tinto, BHP, OZ Minerals, and Iluka across Australia, South America, and Africa. I have extensive experience in various commodities, including Copper, Iron Ore, Nickel, and Mineral Sands
An independent mining consulting focusing on the Valuation of complex projects, independent reviews, and due diligence work
This role involved providing support to the Iluka Business Development team in terms of both Major Capital project valuation work and Merger and Acquisition work.
Some of the key responsibilities included:
- Leading all Life of Asset valuation requirements for their Sierra Leone Rutile (SRL) operations in West Africa.
- Leading the valuation process of part of the sale of SRL to the International Finance Corporation (IFC)
- Developing financial models to determine the value of significant capital projects for the SRL operations through the various study stages of the project.
- Leading valuation work for the due diligence of all potential acquisitions.
n this role, my main responsibility was to provide support for commercial decisions related to the Olympic Dam Mining Operations.
Some of my key achievements include:
- Completing the bi-annual Life of Asset valuation for Olympic Dam by reviewing input data (5YP), reconciling it with past submissions, and analyzing significant variations.
- Conducting valuation work that supported the SEC/JORC Ore reserves. - Leading the valuation work for annual impairment testing for Olympic Dam. - Providing commercial support on projects with values over US$20 million through various stages of the project development process.
- Offering commercial advice for projects valued at less than US$20 million to key personnel.
The main responsibility of my role was to provide guidance on commercial matters for Leighton's Mining Division. This involved preparing and reviewing business case submissions and managing approvals through the "Gated" work winning process. Additionally, I developed an operating cost model for the client's "schedule of rate" and reviewed and developed valuation models for various Coal and Iron Ore Projects.
The main responsibility of this role was to oversee the commercial aspects of the Simandou Iron Ore study in Guinea.
- Developing and updating financial models to determine the project's value and viability throughout its various stages.
- Collaborated with key stakeholders to develop an operating cost model for the Simandou Project, and undertook option analysis to ensure all scenarios were considered.
Commercial support to Rio Tinto Senior Management in their negotiations with the Guinean Government,
The main responsibility of this role involved providing commercial support to the General Managers of mining operations. Some of the tasks I undertook include:
- Conducting a Post Investment Review for a major capital project. I updated the financial model with actual costs, interviewed key stakeholders across different levels of seniority, and prepared reports for submission to the Rio Tinto Investment Committee for review.
- Working on a pre-feasibility financial model for another major capital project. This involved developing the financial model and operating costs estimate.
- Collaborating with General and Senior Management during the Annual budget process. I developed final presentations and ensured alignment between different stakeholders.
- Reviewing capital expenditure applications for projects and providing advice to the relevant Senior Management.
- Providing commercial support to Senior Management for making critical business decisions.
