During Andrew's 20 year career in the UKm he represented 7 of 8 of the UK’s leading and largest developers and investors including Lend Lease, Westfield, Land Securities, CSC, Hermes, Grosvenor and Prudential

Direct involvement in project leasing some of the world’s most exciting and innovative retail projects including Bluewater Kent, Westfield London and Silverburn Glasgow

Ten year’s experience acting on behalf of leading UK retailers including Next, River Island and Clarks.

Senior managerial positions and directorships of major retail leasing organisations in the UK including CB Richard Ellis, DTZ London Retail and Dalgleish, the then market leader in retail real estate advice.

  • The Property Team at The Just Group provides a full turn key service to the 7 Retail Brands (Dotti, Jacqui E, Jay Jays Just Jeans, Portmans, Peter Alexander and Smiggle – a current total of some 1250 stores located in Australasia, Asia and Europe
  • The Property Team provides services including rent payment, legal, store design and construction and Leasing
  • Andrew’s role in Leasing includes
  • The Management of major landlord portfolio relationships and negotiations across the Group’s stores in Australia and New Zealand including Scenter Group, Lend Lease, Kiwi Property and Stride Properties in New Zealand
  • Management of all store leases in New Zealand
  • The above includes strategic advice to the Group Board in relation to portfolio renewals strategy and the best route to outcomes
  • Working closely when required with the CEO to agree property strategy and negotiation
  • Peter Alexander – I have lead on key growth initiatives for the Brand working closely with Judy Coomber, MD Peter Alexander to identify opportunity, draw up target locations and then find the sites and complete the commercial negations to secure the site

  • Context: Based , Melbourne
  • The team VIC Team was responsible for Lend Lease’s Victorian assets including Greensborough Plaza, CS Square Caroline Springs, Stud Park, Pakenham Place and Victoria Harbour
  • Achievements:
  • CS Square – the leasing of a 45 specialty (12,500 sq m) extension to a district centre in Melbourne’s western suburbs
  • I was leasing Manager and delivered the project well leased to national brands above rental budget and in a difficult economic period
  • Greensborough Plaza – as Leasing Exec solely responsible for this centre for the 3 years I have successfully concluded the ongoing cycle of lease renewals together with new lettings
  • I have completed over 70 deals in the 12 months to Dec 2011
  • The centre is in an extremely competitive trade area but this has not precluded targets being met and improvement in the tenant mix
  • I have also been involved in the development planning of a remix and upgrade at Level 1 including the breakup of the former Bi Lo food store and the leasing of the space to 2 national mini majors together with 11 new specialty tenancies

  • Context: Based in Central London, the CBRE Retail Division is the UK’s market leader
  • When I was there it had a turnover of £28m, 135 staff and represented some of the UK’s leading owners, developers and retailers including Capital Shopping Centres, Hammerson, Hermes, HSBC, ING Real Estate, Land Securities, Lend Lease, Westfield, Prudential, Marks and Spencer, New Look, Top Shop
  • I managed the Shopping Centre Development and Leasing Team
  • It should be noted than unlike the Australian market, Retailers, Investors and Developers almost always use external real estate advisors on leasing and consultancy
  • Only Westfield has an in house leasing team in the UK
  • Achievements:
  • Westfield London (160,000sqm) – project leasing of a major new regional centre opened October 2008 in Central London
  • Westfield London was Westfield’s largest project worldwide with a gross development cost of over £900m
  • The centre has a fashion bias to the tenant mix bringing UK and international brands including the first Louis Vuitton store in a shopping centre in the UK
  • I was responsible for CBRE team and delivering the target rent roll of over £85m pa
  • Silverburn Glasgow (93,000sqm) - strategic advice and project leasing of a new regional centre opened October 2007 for Retail Property Holdings
  • The centre is of regional significance and specialises in high-end fashion
  • I obtained the instruction to lease the centre only 22 months ahead of opening date and the centre opened fully leased on 25th October 2007
  • Thecentre:mk (120,000sqm) – asset management and static leasing of the existing regional centre and development advice for an extension of 42,000sqm for Hermes and Prudential
  • This was a £750m asset on which I led the leasing team for nine years
  • The Rock Bury (70,000sqm) – development advice and preletting of a new regional centre then due to open in Autumn 2010 for Thornfield Properties
  • I leased the anchors of Marks and Spencer, Debenhams, River Island and Next
  • These 4 retailers are 4 of the best centre anchors in the UK market
  • Delivered personal fees of circa £2m for the 2007 financial year prior to departure for Australia

  • Context: Based in the London head office of DTZ in Europe, the Department was responsible for DTZ’s retail activity across the UK
  • The six areas of practice each headed by a Director reporting to me were:
  • Tenant representation
  • Investment purchasing and disposal
  • Shopping centre leasing and development
  • High street agency
  • Out of town leasing, Investment and professional
  • Professional and valuation
  • The Department’s turnover for the year to April 2003 was circa £4m, for the year to April 2004 was circa £6.5m and for the year to April 2005 at circa £8m
  • Responsibilities:
  • Managed a team of 38 staff including five directors, professional team and support staff
  • P&L responsibility for the Retail Department (London) reporting directly to the Business Unit Manager and thereby the UK Management Board
  • In addition I sat on a higher group Board responsible for an annual turnover of approximately £50m from the West end of London office This included the Department business plan and budget with the heads of my sub departments and upwards to London Markets and the UK Board to ensure the development and growth of the business and the delivery of a strong return on costs
  • Led staff development of the entire Department including career direction, performance reviews, remuneration and hiring
  • A nationwide leadership role in all DTZ’s ten UK offices taking responsibility for particularly shopping centre leasing and development
  • Led the Shopping Centre Leasing and Development team including responsibility for:
  • All shopping centre instructions (UK-wide DTZ held 80 shopping centres instructions)
  • Managing key client relationships including, Hermes, Prudential, Lend Lease , Castlemore Securites, CIT and Grosvenor Estate
  • New business development including identifying opportunities, targeting business and pitching
  • Day-to-day management of clients and instructions held by the London team
  • Liaison with DTZ’s European retail offices to identify and secure new business cross border
  • Projects included:
  • Thecentre:mk (120,000sqm) – asset management, leasing and development advice for Hermes and Prudential of this Regional Shopping Centre
  • Chapelfield Norwich (55,000sqm) – project leasing new regional fashion centre for Lend Lease which opened in September 2005
  • Gallions Reach, Beckton (29,000sqm) - strategic leasing advice and project leasing of a new 30,000sqm edge of town fashion based retail park for Castlemore Securities and Pillar Properties
  • This included persuading retailers not usually in this kind of location to take leases
  • Lower Precinct, Coventry (23,200sqm) - strategic leasing advice and project leasing of new 25,000sqm town centre shopping centre for the Scottish Life Arrowcroft Partnership - personally negotiated over 50% of the lettings including the major fashion anchor stores
  • Charterhouse Shopping Centre Portfolio - asset management and leasing advice to CIT as part of a £325m purchase of eleven shopping centres with ongoing strategic asset management advisory role after the purchase
  • The Dolphin Centre, Poole (37,000sqm) - asset management and leasing advice to The Grosvenor Shopping Centre Fund
  • Woolworths – purchase of £315m portfolio of 200 Woolworths stores for London and regional properties
  • Role included coordination of market and leasehold value reports, valuation, measured surveys, condition surveys and preparation of valuation for bank finance
  • Allders – purchase of £165m department store group for Minerva Plc
  • Role included coordination of market and leasehold value reports, valuation, measured surveys, condition surveys and preparation of valuations for bank finance
