Angela Swift

• Accountable and responsible for the assessment, planning provision and evaluation of care for women and families through pregnancy, birth and the post natal course.
• Support and mentor student midwives on placement in the Birth Centre.
• Consult and refer with the Obstetric team when complications develop and present these cases at Case Conference.
• Refer to obstetrician, social work, allied health or GP when care provision falls outside of midwifery scope of practice.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Birth Centre and the Women's and Newborn's teams.

• Multiple responsibilities for safety and quality activities including audits, KPI reporting for PPH and OASI.
• Monitoring and managing consumer feedback and presenting PREMS data.
• Investigating and managing RISKMAN reports, performing clinical incident analysis on SAC 2 events and contributing to RCA investigations for SAC 1 events.
• Author for a large portfolio of clinical procedures relevant to birthing services at the RBWH.
• Worked collaboratively with colleagues within WNS, QLD Clinical Guidelines and Metro North Health Service on several projects and reviews.
• Promoted evidence based person centered care and communicate changes to procedures and policies to the wider team.
• Worked closely with the CNC for Safety and Quality to ensure that NSQHS standards were met and the team were accreditation ready.
• Worked closely with Midwifery Educator and Clinical Facilitators to promote and facilitate clinical competencies.

• Team leader of six midwives and identified health worker.
• This was the first MGP at the RBWH and was dedicated to caring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and closing the gap in health inequalities for mothers and babies.
• Required to provide culturally appropriate care and collaborate with community based support services, ATSI Health Unit and the multidisciplinary team at the RBWH.

This was a newly created position and model of care based at Mossman Hospital in Far North QLD. The role of the CMC was to build an all risk MGP model of care to support woman and families in Douglas Shire, a large rural area, 70km north of the nearest maternity hospital in Cairns. Women recruited to the model were cared for close to home and accompanied by their midwife in labour to Cairns Hospital.

Responsibilities included:

• recruitment and retention of midwives,
• clinical support to them and the nursing and medical team
• professional development, oversight and allocation of caseloads and rostering on call commitments to ensure 24/7 availability.
• Monitoring the safety and quality of the service, developing data collection tools and evaluation of outcomes that were regularly reported at governance meetings.
• Excellent outcomes were achieved for mothers and babies however the MGP was replaced by an ambulatory model at the end of 2018.

• Responsible for rostering, recruitment and management of midwifery staff of the MGP, 4-bed ward and birth suite.

• The role of the team leader included appropriate delegaton of the workload based on staff experience and changing acuity.
• Supporting students and staff to develop clinical skills.
• Managing and escalating Obstetric emergencies.
• Communicating with and building respectful professional relationships with the obstetric team.
• Providing direct clinical care in the Birth Suite and Obstetric review centre.
• Held portfolios including PRIME and Stillbirths.
• I was seconded to a number of developmental roles during this time including CMC Birthing Services and CMC Safety and Quality.

• Principal Investigator for the CUT Trial feasibility study

• Seconded to the role to investigate high obstetric anal sphincter injury rates.
