Assistant Accountant

Auckland Museum
07.2019 - Current

Auckland War Memorial Museum tells the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific, and its people. The museum is a war memorial for the province of Auckland and holds one of New Zealand’s top three heritage libraries. It comprises multiple galleries, memorial events, and exhibitions across the world.


Responsibilities included:


  • Transactional Processing: Monthly journals that include Lease, social club, Auckland Council Levy, Income in advance, Contractual Obligation Grant (COG) journals, GST, Opex and Capex Accruals, Petty cash, Retail store, etc.
  • Reconcile Balance Sheet Accounts, ATM, Cash Float, Donation boxes, Credit cards, and Tessitura accounts for Retail, visitor services, and Elockers.
  • Audit: Performed half-yearly and yearly cash float audits for retail store, visitor services, donation boxes, and Car park. Provided reports to external auditors and resolved their queries in time.
  • Prepare the GST return for the Accounting Manager's review.
  • Providing information to various teams about the allocated budget, spending, and availability.
  • Process depreciation to ensure all assets are being depreciated correctly
  • Ensure the Capex Tracking file is maintained accurately and reconciled. Assist in asset capitalization.
  • Reconcile fixed asset register with the general ledger and prepare fixed asset statutory disclosure notes monthly
  • Managing and reconciling company credit cards.
  • Daily cash flow forecasting and ensuring sufficient funds are available. Assisted in medium to long-term cash flow forecasting.
  • Projects: Assisted the Accounting manager, to decide the cash float provider. Identified various risk areas in AP processing and implemented the changes by coordinating with internal and external IT teams.

Kotahi helps keep New Zealand competitive on the world stage by working with exporters, importers, and industry partners to create a sustainable, more efficient supply chain. They invest in leading-edge technology and work with partners to simplify and digitise the export and import process.


Responsibilities included:

  • Transactional Processing: Processing freight, detention, and demurrage invoices within agreed time frames. Process and pay petty cash claims.
  • Reconciliation: Reconcile Vendor accounts weekly and create reports for different departments and vendors. Create and edit vendor accounts in the system.
  • Payment: Preparing payment run files, uploading payments on the bank’s website, checking cash flow, making payments, and sending remittances.
  • Problem Solving/ Issue Resolution: Determine correct buy and sell rates for various destinations from vendor and commercial to resolve blocked invoices. Regular meetings with vendors, to discuss and resolve issues at both ends.
  • Reporting: Preparing monthly cash flow, profit, and loss margin reports. Investigate and escalate any vendor accounts in credit monthly to the team leader and practice and monitor agreed control procedures, providing suggestions for improvements in efficiency

Responsibilities included:

  • Transactional Processing: Entry, Processing, and payment of different invoices within agreed time frames. Reconcile Vendor accounts, review/ resolve transactional reports as required
