Key Involvements

  • Training and Development: Conducted in-depth training sessions for all TOM associates working at night shift, focusing on TOM-related tasks to ensure complete coverage and adherence to safety standards. This included setting up a system to track task completion through the Knet system, which helped maintain high levels of competency and accountability among team members. Successfully trained 3 associates to step up as future leaders.
  • Yard Safety and Organization: Designed and implemented scalable safety plans for the yard area to significantly cut down on incidents and near-misses. This involved daily safety audits to spot and address potential hazards, leading to continuous improvements in safety protocols.
  • Safety and Learning Collaboration: Worked closely with the safety and learning teams to revise the TDR (Trailer Drop Report) paperwork. This update was crucial for overcoming obstacles and gathering feedback during the transition of trailer drop functions to the TOM team in 2022.
  • Headcount Management: Oversaw the staffing requirements for TOM night shift, optimizing staff schedules to manage both peak and off-peak times efficiently. Achieved a reduction of 1,480 per year Labor hours and improved coverage during employee absences. Reduced Labor hours by 62 per week during peak periods and enhanced Labor tracking through site-wide initiatives.
  • Cross-Training Facilitation: Partnered with the Learning and Development team to arrange cross-training for dock and BWU5 associates. Used an expression of interest approach to ensure optimal staffing levels for the transportation team. Introduced and established a buddy pair system for both new and existing TOM team members. This system allows individuals to foster productivity through mutual support, guidance, and effective communication.
  • Risk Management and Mitigation: Selected by Level 5 management to create and implement strategies for managing risks during the prime and peak seasons of 2023. Collaborated with Australian transportation teams to put effective strategies in place, ensuring smooth operations and reducing delays. Worked with the PER4 manager to optimize yard and site operations through effective SDT placement and raised bar.
  • Standard Operating Procedures: Developed and enforced a standard operating procedure for hostler drivers and shunt trailers during peak seasons. This procedure improved the efficiency of product storage in the yard and lowered storage costs. Created detailed maps (mudmaps) for BWU2 and BWU5 in 2022 to enhance carrier partners' understanding of site locations and safety protocols. Created and implemented a tracking system for E/F straps at BWU2 to avoid misplacement and cut costs for carrier partners, thereby reducing the number of escalations related to strap issues.
  • 5S Pillar Leadership: Appointed by Level 4 and Level 5 leadership as the lead for the TOM 5S pillar. Led all 5S-related projects, focusing on organizing the TOM office and drivers' lounge. Currently working on improving the guard shack entrance and exit to enhance the work environment.
  • Site Metrics Improvement: Reviewed daily dispatch reports to identify and address issues with late arrivals. Escalated these issues to ATS and participated in weekly business reviews with carriers. Successfully improved site metrics to above 96%, surpassing standard targets by implementing strategic improvements in arrival times.
  • Safety and Load Quality: Actively worked to reduce safety and load quality incidents at BWU2. This involved reporting incidents and near-misses, conducting root cause analyses (RCA), and collaborating with relevant departments and distribution centre to prevent similar issues in the future.
  • Site Launch Support: Chosen by Level 5 leaders to assist with the launch of the PER4 site in September 2023. Supported the setup of the TOM team, trained associates, provided L3 training, and offered extensive support to Level 4 leaders throughout the launch phase.
