• Assist New Plant Development (NPD) coordinator and Manger in growing new Tomato Varieties for Research and Development.
• Varietal yield performance, disease resistance and fruit quality are the main attributes being measured. Counting and maintaining plant densities and comparing different aspects of new varieties with existing standards with the NPD program.
• Data collection, recording and analysis including varietal yield and plant registration. Yield data taken twice every week. Post-harvest and plant registration data taken every month. Sampling of fruits, measuring brix%, and assist NPD coordinator in managing post-harvest.
• Product analysis (weight loss and firmness) and reporting to technical development manager.
• Pests and disease scouting in NPD compartment and their identification. Use of Integrated pest management (IPM) to monitor and control pest and diseases in NPD crops.
• Assist in management of daily tasks associated with crop production including seedling, grafting, plantation, twisting, leafing, lowering, pollination, and harvest of NPD crop.
• Assist NPD coordinator and Grower manager in identifying and recommendation of suitable
varieties from trial data collection every year so that the total production is maximized.
• Assist plant health officer in identifying diseased plants, taking measures to control the spread and develop strategies to maintain better health of tomato plants.
• Working closely with the assistant grower in glasshouse to understand every aspect of the glasshouse growing operations.
