Provided care and support to hospital patients while completing daily cleaning duties, collecting and restocking supplies, preparing and delivering meals, ordering stock, and collecting medications. I had the opportunity to work on a two-month washdown contract at the Cape Lambert CLA site, collaborating with a team to complete washdown tasks.
In my role as a Washdown Operator, I actively participate in daily pre-starts, Take 5s, and CCC meetings. I have developed a strong understanding of Safe Work Area Management, including setting up job sites in accordance with correct procedures, signage, and barricading requirements. I have gained experience using radio protocols and consistently practise clear, positive communication with team members and other work groups. Working collaboratively, my team and I plan and execute tasks using the safest and most efficient methods to ensure the well-being of all personnel. I have also had the opportunity to train and mentor new staff members, further developing my leadership and teamwork skills.
Gained practical, hands-on experience in the plumbing trade, assisting with job assessments, hazard identification, material selection, and choosing appropriate tools for each task. Developed experience in setting up safety barricades and acting as a spotter for machinery operators, ensuring all work was completed safely and efficiently.
I completed all required Rio Tinto inductions to gain full site access. I gained experience in an operator role by shadowing current site operators, developing an understanding of plant operations, fault-finding processes, clearing blockages, and resetting faults such as pull-wire switches to ensure continuous operation. I also developed a strong awareness of workplace safety practices, including the use of tools such as Take 5s and CCCs. Through this experience, I learned the importance of barricading and information tagging for effective work area management. In addition, I gained insight into laboratory operations at both CLA and CLB, observing sample station plant checks, sample collection and preparation, and the process through to final results.
