The safe and efficient operation of all machinery aboard the vessel
Maintaining sufficient bunkers, lubricants and other essential engine related stores and consumables
Personally supervising the safe and efficient loading and transferring of bunkers
Assisting Technical Department Personnel with the preparation of dry-docking specifications, and with the supervision of repairs and structural alterations
The day to day running of all plant and machinery
The allocation of all maintenance work to respective engineers and ratings
The maintenance of the engine log book
Proper maintenance of the Oil Record Book
Keeping proper records and adequate supplies of spare parts and tools
Carrying out regular inspections within my area of responsibility and performs routine equipment tests (navigation, operation, machinery, safety, etc.) at intervals prescribed in the PMS or as instructed by the Company
Implementation of the SMS procedures and requirements within my own Department
Responsible for the maintenance and repairs of all mechanical and electrical parts of the deck machinery and mooring equipment
Regularly informing the Master on the operational condition of the machinery and on any delays or irregularities expected due to malfunction of any part thereof
Familiarization of engineering personnel with the power plant, the firefighting arrangement within the Engine Room and SMS requirements so that their duties are performed efficiently
Maintenance of all Safety and Environment related equipment and devices of my department in full readiness; assigning specific maintenance/repair works to the Engine Repair Team
Ensuring proper safety, good hygiene and conscientious environmental protection rules and practices by Engine department personnel
Ensuring the proper manning of the engine room watch
Issuing standing instructions to complement Company procedures and instructions
Ensuring that there is always sufficient quantity of fuel of acceptable quality on-board, keeping in mind a safety margin for the next voyage
Responsible for proper measuring and recording fuel consumption daily
Evaluate fuel measurements before recording
Ensuring that sounding tapes are in good condition
Conduct any appropriate calculations in order to close any data gaps related to daily fuel measurements.
