- Preventive Maintenance and General Machine Inspection
- CAT custom track service (CTS): This is done on CAT dozers and excavators to determine the percentage wear on parts and predict the remaining life and prevent major breakdown or unplanned maintenance schedules on undercarriage components
- General Servicing: Carry out preventative maintenance at specified operating periods, i.e., 500hrs, 750hrs and 1000hrs
- Oil/coolant samples are taken, scheduled oil samples of steering, hydraulic, transmission and engine are taken for SOS laboratory analysis
- The analysis will help trace any worn component that requires change
- For oil samples that are found to be affected through worn out components, the affected oils are drained and filled with new oil
- Service of Engine: Engine oil filters are changed
- Depending on the machine and type of service, engine oil change out may be done
- Primary fuel filters are removed, cleaned and re-fixed
- The secondary fuel filters are, however, changed
- ORS and bypass fuel filters are also changed
- Air cleaners are inspected and changed if required
- Cyclones are also removed and cleaned
- Fan hub and jockey pulleys are also greased manually
- When the engine oil is not drained, it is topped up
- Service of Transmission and Hydraulics: Hub oils are drained and filled with fresh oil
- Differential filter guard is removed to fix kidney loop for oil cleaning
- Differential oil filter is changed
- Transmission (including charging filters) and hydraulic oil filters are changed
- Depending on the type of servicing, transmission and hydraulic oils could be drained
- Strainers and screens are only cleaned and re-fixed
- Seals are also changed where necessary
- Steering filters are also changed, and oil topped to required level
- Pressure in steering line is released by pressing on the relief valve
- Brake wear measurement is then taken for both front and rear brakes depending on the machine type
- Checks/maintenance on Frame and Body: general greasing of all bearings and joints is carried out using the grease nipple points
- Automatic grease tank is also filled to specifications
- Steering accumulator pressures are also checked and topped up with nitrogen if necessary to get the correct specified pressure
- Hydraulic brake breathers also changed depending on the type of service
- Machine Inspection: The machine is inspected for leakages, burst hoses, cracks or broken chassis, walkways, handrails, damaged tubes, etc
- For leakages, gaskets or O-ring seals are replaced, burst hoses are replaced with new ones, cracks are dealt with by welding, damaged tubes are replaced
- After all scheduled inspections, maintenance and repairs are done, the backlog servicing is carried out: worn out seals and burst hoses are replaced
- Broken clamps and pipes including injector pipes are also replaced
- All other problems which do not fall under the general service are dealt with
- After PM is completed, the machine starts, runs and tests to ensure proper functioning of all systems
- If all systems are functioning properly, Mine dispatch is then informed that the machine can be released for production
- PM report is finally written to close the job
