Volunteering at Baai Alkebulan African Library, Art and History Museum. An African owned and managed space for African, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Every week Baai Alkebulan:

• Improve students’ academic performance by providing CALD tutors outside the pressure of a school environment.

• Expand young people’s knowledge and connection to community with programs on African history and culture.

• Host reading groups for kids to develop new skills and learn about themselves.

• Connect young people to sport and culture through excursions around the western suburbs.

Every week I spent time at the library and assisted in holding reading groups for mature aged people, assist in the facilitation of Ethiopian Coffee ceremonies, sit down with kids and read and write stories, connected with young people and shared culture and knowledge.

• Working extensively in the health promotion team, leading a project on a contraception resource and liaising with an Aboriginal artist for design on resource
• Working with team members on group projects reflecting on the life stages of an Aboriginal person and their experiences, tailoring each milestone and creating care linkages
• Facilitating workshops for community members at events, engaging with community orgs, supporting the Aboriginal maternity workforce and maintaining culturally safe spaces for workforce to connect
• Holding mothers groups for tailored culturally safe conversations and support to Aboriginal mothers accessing our ACCOs (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations)
• Committing to the organisation's motto “Aboriginal Health in Aboriginal hands”

• Working within the Western Public Health Unit to actively address the health disparities Aboriginal people face in the community and maintain an understanding of areas of priority in the Western catchment
• Building rapport and engagement with other Aboriginal Health stakeholders and working groups, providing the expertise of the Aboriginal perspective through yarning
• Participating and attending Health events and networking to further create a strong list of stakeholders
• Project management

• Managed backstage activities, contributing to seamless transitions between scenes during live productions.
• Supported the Stage Manager with daily tasks, resulting in a smoother running production process.
• Helped actors and crew remain focused and attentive during shows.
• Ensured on-time set changes by efficiently organizing crew members and delegating tasks accordingly.
• Helped with actor, scene and prop blocking.
• Assisted in problem-solving during technical rehearsals, leading to more polished final performances.
• Enhanced show quality by ensuring timely execution of scene changes and prop management.

• Working closely with MDT to provide culturally appropriate care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and families so as to address health, social and emotional wellbeing disparities
• Carrying responsibilities for effective liaison and linkages with key community controlled health organisations and other Aboriginal medical and community services

• 10 East, Stroke Unit
• Working closely with the MDT, ENs, RNs and MOs, bedside clinical handover, catheter care, assistance with activities of daily living ie showering and toileting, environmental cleaning, restocking, assistance with manual handling, answering phone calls

• Rotations:
• Renal Dialysis unit:6 months
• Recording hourly observations, assistance with start and end of dialysis- Cannula care, removal of cannulation, shallow wound care, meal assistance, documentation, clinical handover, environmental cleaning, restocking, assisting with patient needs
• Paediatric unit:6 months
• Recording observations, working closely with the MDT, ENs, RNs and MOs, bedside clinical handover, shallow wound care, catheter care, assistance with activities of daily living ie showering and toileting, removal and care of cannulation, environmental cleaning, restocking, assistance with manual handling, answering phone calls, organising and updating patient documentation
• Endoscopy:3 Months
• Recording post-op observations, working closely with the MDT, ENs, RNs and MOs, bedside clinical handover, care and removal of cannulation, environmental cleaning, restocking, assistance with manual handling, answering phone calls, organising and updating patient documentation, assistance with patient in recovery
• Discharge Transit Unit:3 Months
• Collection of patient from ward and transport to discharge unit, assistance with patient discharge documentation, organising MDT to conclude their treatment, recording hourly observations, care and removal of cannulation, environment cleaning, restocking, assistance with manual handling, answering phone calls, organising and updating patient documentation, assistance with patient needs in recovery
• E9 (Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care):6 months
• Recording and documenting patient observations, working closely with the MDT, ENs, RNs and MOs, bedside clinical handover, care and removal of cannulation, catheter care, shallow wound care, assistance with activities of daily living ie showering and toileting, environmental cleaning, restocking, assistance with manual handling, answering phone calls, organising and updating patient documentation
