  • My position as a disability support worker varied depending on the client I was working with. My role involved providing personal, physical and emotional support to individuals living with a disability. This differs from personal care in daily living such as, showering, dressing, eating, medication administration social activities and financial decisions.
  • I have also worked in other sectors of disability, including training and residential care. I assisted in numerous courses and classes ran by Koomarri. Cooking, teaching Certificate 1 and 2 to help clients gain employment opportunities, residential and home care, and training in business capability. These roles required me to obtain and build a consistent and considerate yet professional demeanour while nurturing the client depending on their needs.
  • Participate in the Lifestyle Service Planning process for individual clients and monitor outcomes. Work with clients, family/ carers, relevant case managers and other professionals to support the client's individual goals. In conjunction with other members of staff assist in developing, implementing and evaluating training and behaviour programs to attain identified individual goals.
  • Liaise extensively with other staff to ensure the overall smooth and consistent running of the service. Actively contribute to a team environment through open communication, participation in regular staff meetings, planning processes and policy review.
