I am a Registered Nurse with 1 year of hospital experience in the fields of ICU and Same Day Procedure. My aim is to make patients feel safe, comfortable and confident in the care I provide, while building a therapeutic relationship with them and their families. I have skills in intensive care nursing and have a strong desire to continue education in emergency nursing. I am passionate about making a difference in patients lives through advocacy, communication, escalation, education and kindness. I am organised, hardworking, reliable and I have a positive attitude. I am a team player and strive to work to the best of my abilities everyday.
During my time here, I completed two rotations. My first in ICU and the second in the Same Day Procedure unit.
My responsibilities and roles in the ICU:
- Managing medication administration (PO, NG, IV, IM, PR, Neb, Subcut)
- Responding to deteriorating patients and escalating in a timely manner
- Managing complicated and advanced technology; intubation, sedation, cardiac monitoring and invasive devices
- Building therapeutic relationships with patients, families and friends
- IVC, arterial line, central line and PICC care
- Nasogastric tube and IDC care
- Pressure area care
- Full body assessment
- Continuing education and remaining up to date with best practice and standards.
Same Day Procedure Unit:
- Communication with multidisciplinary team including pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, theatre team and surgeons.
- Reassuring nervous patients
- Wound management and silver chain referrals
- Education to patient regarding at home care, signs of infection, scripts and pain management
- Time management and critical thinking
- Knowledge of anaesthetics and care
- Contributing to positive work environment and efficiency through accurate documentation, safety checks and handover
While studying Bachelor of Nursing, I worked as an Assistant in Nursing where my roles included:
- Caring and ensuring safety for the residents
- Helping with daily activities including showers, meals, exercise and entertainment
- Building therapeutic relationships with the residents and family members
- Escalating signs of deterioration to nurse
- Wound care
- Stoma management
- Dementia education and de-escalation
- Following assessments completed by multidisciplinary team, including speech pathologist for swallow and thickened food requirements, physiotherapy for exercise routine and occupational therapist for implementing safe techniques to encourage independence.
- Manual handling, including use of hoists
