After serving 25 years in a UK police force; the last 11 at the rank of Inspector, I recently emigrated to Western Australia to join the police service as a constable..
Professionally, my strengths lie in building strong working relationships with colleagues and partners to achieve mutual and unilateral goals, and I have a proven track record of achieving exceptional results in extremely challenging circumstances.
I am adept at evaluating operational shortcomings, identifying opportunities for change and implementing them. I thrive in an evolving or chaotic environment and I get the utmost satisfaction from bring my team on a journey of change, helping processes evolve, and then watching the benefits being realised after the work is done.
As the policing world world nears capacity I have doubled-down on my approach of supporting my team to work smarter not harder. As a manager I recognise my responsibility to achieve my goals with the resources available and I facilitate this by ensuring my staff are following the most appropriate policy and procedures. This has developed into a near obsession about efficient and effective working practices and ab abhorrence of wasted time and excess effort.
When it comes to people, I tend to see the positives before the negatives. I have used this to great effect when dealing with challenging individuals where others have failed. That said, ultimately I recognise that I too am flawed and, through a process of continued reflection, I strive to be better tomorrow than I am today.
I am currently undergoing reorientation training to familiarise myself with Western Australia legislation, policy and procedure, in preparation for commencing a posting to Perth District as a First Class Constable in February 2024.
I have been a police officer for 25 years but at heart i am a family man. I have four children; aged 25, 16, eight and seven and i enjoy nothing more than some time at the beach to watch them enjoy life. At my ever advancing age I try to keep fit by training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - where after two years of pain I remain a white belt, and if i get spontaneous free time I try enjoy a spot of fishing, or spending some time playing Irish folk music (fairly badly) on my mandolin or cittern.
