Blaine Meikle

In this role, I was a qualified Electrician in a small team of 4 working collaboratively, and individually, performing day to day electrical tasks. We carry out a large range of jobs, including, fault finding, switchboard upgrades, laying mains cable, re-wires, equipment/fitting replacements, preventative maintenance, full new builds.

In this role, I was placed with 4 different electrical companies throughout my apprenticeship.

• I started in Christchurch NZ with Melray Electrical doing industrial factory new builds for 6 months.
• Next I worked for William Hickman doing a new build commercial apartment building for 6 months.
• Next I worked for Electro Services in Westport doing a range of industrial, commercial, and domestic work for 10 months
• I then finished my apprenticeship at WLS Electrical doing a range of commercial and domestic work

In this role, I worked at a jet engine rebuild centre as an engineering apprentice. I worked in the cleaning and inspection department for 3 months, this including cleaning all different parts of the jet engines in vats and by hand. Then thoroughly inspecting part for defects, all while following strict protocols and paperwork, working to the highest standard. I had previously done 1 year of study to gain my entrance to this role, and was unfortunately let go because of COVID-19 and a forecasted large downturn of work.
