Carries out surgical operations in an aseptic environment. Surgical specialities include Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Breast, Cardiothoracic, Colorectal, ENT, Eye, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic, Transplant, Upper GI, Urology and Vascular.
- Adhering to strict aseptic techniques, including proper hand hygiene and the use of sterile attire.
- Assisting surgical team by providing necessary instruments and equipment during the procedure.
- Conducting perioperative assessments to ensure that patients are physically and mentally prepared for surgery.
- Facilitating a collaborative and coordinated approach to patient care during surgery with the entire surgical, nursing and anesthesiology teams.
- Anticipating risks and complications to implement preventive measures and enhance patient safety.
- Identifying and informing any concerns or abnormalities that may affect the patient’s readiness for surgery to appropriate surgical team members or nursing staff when required.
- Advocating for patient’s rights, ensuring informed consent has been obtained
- Maintaining a sterile environment in the operating theatres to prevent surgical site infections and addressing any concerns the patient may have.
- Providing patient education on the surgical process and what to expect during recovery.
- Identifying and responding to potential safety issues promptly to minimise adverse events during surgery and operation delay.
