I have 17 years experience in helping developing and encouraging children's reading. I am familiar with a range of children's literature and work daily with students of varied reading abilities. I have a deep understanding of the reading challenges of children with dyslexia, autism, ADD/ADHD and global developmental delays and have worked with these groups to develop an ability and desire to read. I also frequently conduct standardised reading assessments.
I am confident in my ability to collaboratively develop resources for students with varying reading levels and interests. While working as a centre director at Kip McGrath Wyong and Bateau Bay, I have developed an ability to engage with customers in a commercial setting. This has included the negotiation of pricing, enforcement of terms and conditions of sale and dispute resolution.
In my spare time I am passionate about reading and technology. I an avid reader and when too busy to make time for reading, I often listen to audio books through my Audible membership. Depending on the weather, I also like to 'game' on my PC and work in my garden.
I consider myself to have a high degree of technological competency. I have learnt how to use a range of career specific programs and I regularly use the Office Suite. I also frequently use Google Docs, Sheets and Drive to collaborate with employees and customers. I regularly create invoices for clients using Xero. I am able to multitask and use a range of apps including Teams and Outlook on my phone, so respond to staff and clients while travelling.
I am highly organised and motivated. I am used to working independently on projects, but welcome the opportunity to work as part of a team.
I live localy and have reliable transport.
Although I have not worked in the field, I am also a qualified librarian. Because of this, I have an understanding of the operations of libraries and am confident in my abilities to liaise with children's librarians.
