Michael and Michelle was a featured short film I had the pleasure of being a part of. It was a rewarding experience that gave me a deep appreciation for the time and effort that goes into long shoot days. The camera was often just centimeters from my face, which challenged me to be highly aware of how I reacted and responded to each line. Even the subtlest expression could be picked up by the audience, so it pushed me to stay present and intentional in every moment
In 2024, I worked as a featured extra in the music video for Tones and I’s I Get High. This was my first on-camera acting experience and provided valuable insight into the nuances of screen performance. I learned the importance of subtle facial expressions and how minimal, intentional movements are often more effective in close-up shots.
I portrayed Jake Dillinger in the contemporary musical Be More Chill, a production that explores the challenges of teenage life and the potentially harmful influence of technology. In contrast to my previous role as Tom Collins in Rent, Jake was a character I found more relatable, an athletic and outgoing teenager with a personality similar to my own. Despite these similarities, the role presented vocal challenges due to several demanding musical numbers. With the guidance of vocal coaches and support from the production team, I was able to overcome these hurdles and make significant growth as a singer and performer.
In the musical Rent, I portrayed Tom Collins, a multifaceted character navigating the challenges of being a gay man during the height of the AIDS crisis. This role required me to deeply engage with experiences and perspectives vastly different from my own. Through extensive preparation and character work, I was able to authentically convey his emotional journey and his profound connection with Angel, his partner and a drag performer. Taking on this role significantly expanded my range as an actor and reinforced the importance of empathy, research, and emotional depth in approaching complex characters in the future.
