The customization performed, and the standards and procedures produced by Bruce were adopted by DB2 Administration at National Mutual (some of the recommendations and standards produced were included into Platinum Technologies PDA education course in the United States)

Establish its strengths and weaknesses in respect to existing or proposed Performance Monitoring and Tuning strategies used by National Mutual

From National Mutual's standpoint, the project provided the opportunity to have direct input the products development
The duration of the project was approximately two months and was deemed to be highly successful by both National Mutual and IBM Australia

Bruce was assigned the responsibility of establishing various guidelines concerning the use of DB2 at National Mutual

The recommendations and guidelines produced (except tokenised keys which was re-prioritized) were accepted by National Mutual and incorporated into their standards

Bruce was assigned the role of DB2 DBA for the project
The requirements of Victoria Police meant that the package underwent substantially modification (programs and database) prior to implementation
The application was implemented on schedule in early November 1989 and proved to be successful
Just prior to implementation, the DB2 consultant resigned to return to Asia and was not replaced
In the six months subsequent to the implementation, Bruce spent much of his time tuning the DB2 subsystem and application
This was done in conjunction with a senior IBM SE who provided input to the process
That support from IBM ceased in early May 1990, however, Bruce continued the important task of Performance Monitoring and Tuning until his departure
During his time at Victoria, , Bruce provided the necessary DB2 information required by the Systems Programming group to install and test DB2 version 2.2 and DB2PM version 2.0
