Work History

Primary School Tutor and School Readiness Teacher

Ready Set Prep Mooloolaba
02.2023 - Current
  • Ready Set Prep gives preschool students the tools and support to ensure they are prepared for their first year of school. Group sessions are limited to 8 students with a qualified teacher and teacher aid. Seasons are fun and engaging with hands on early literacy, numeracy, fine motor skills as well as social and emotional preparation.
  • I started off working as a private tutor through Ready Set Prep, working with a range of students at their home. Then I was offered a position in the school readiness program to take over the Director’s classes as she was due to go on maternity leave. I have continued to stay on one day a week this year. The sessions run for 2 hours and there are two groups per day with 8 students in each group. We follow the MiniLit early phonics program as well as completing a fun hands-on numeracy activity and a fine motor/craft activity each week. We also follow the “Mind Bubbles” program, which is a wonderful tool for mindfulness, emotional regulation and emotional literacy. We also introduce a pre-writing program “Casey the Caterpillar”. The children are taught a new shape each week during our chalkboard lesson and these shapes start to come together to form letters towards the end of the year.
  • Teaching Environment: Ready Set Prep gives preschool students the tools and support to ensure they are prepared for their first year of school. Group sessions are limited to 8 students with a qualified teacher and teacher aid. Seasons are fun and engaging with hands on early literacy, numeracy, fine motor skills as well as social and emotional preparation.

Relief Teacher

Department of Education and Matthew Flinders Anglican College
01.2020 - 06.2021
  • I taught in a relief teaching capacity for the Department of Education and Matthew Flinders Anglican College 2 days a week, working across all year levels in a variety of settings. Duties entailed all aspects of classroom teaching including creating my own lessons and following set programs.
  • Teaching Environment: Various local Primary Schools including Palmwoods and Woombye State Schools as well as Matthew Flinders Anglican College.

Primary School Teacher and K-2 Coordinator

Malek Fahd Islamic School, Beaumont Hills campus
04.2011 - 12.2019
  • I was employed at Malek Fahd Islamic School since the campus opened in 2011, where I taught Kindergarten (Prep), Year One, Year Two and Year Four. I taught, implemented and accessed students using the Australian Curriculum. I also took part in many extracurricular activities including organising and managing the whole school choir, arts and drama performances. I also organised class excursions and took part in numerous school activities such as Literacy and Numeracy Week, Book Week, Harmony Day, Athletics Carnivals and the school’s annual festival. I also took part in professional development days, including many optional sessions and courses.
  • In 2014, I took on the leadership role of K-2 Coordinator, where I managed six classes including my own. This included organising and officiating weekly staff meetings, monitoring the daily planners and annotated programs/evaluations for each teacher and class in K-2, mentoring of new staff members, organising and leading school events, liaising with parents, as well as various other administrative duties set out by the Acting and Executive Principals, including preparing fortnightly newsletters.
  • I returned from my Maternity Leave at the start of Term 3 2019 and returned to a job-sharing position with a Year 4 Class over a 5-day fortnight. My Coordinator Position was temporarily held by another teacher, as it was a full-time load. As I relocated to Queensland in January 2020, I resigned from the school at the conclusion of Term 4 2019.
  • Teaching Environment: Malek Fahd Islamic School is an Independent school which caters for students from K-12, with three campuses around Sydney. The Beaumont Hills campus is one of the newest schools, which officially opened the beginning of Term 2, 2011 starting with K-2. The school now caters for students from K-12, with high school being introduced from 2013. The school has a high focus on ICT and academic excellence.

Year One Teacher (Maternity Leave Position)

Northholm Grammar School
06.2016 - 12.2016
  • I decided to take a leave of absence to take on a maternity leave position at Northholm Grammar School to extend my experience and skills. This is a renowned school in Sydney. I taught a Year One Class and assisted with music and drama productions including the Christmas Play for K-2. I also helped to organise the weekly Chapel music and assisted with performances there also. I was asked to extend my contract at the school; however I decided to return to my current school (Malek Fahd) as it was a permanent position.
  • Teaching Environment: Northholm Grammar School is an independent Anglican Co-educational Primary and Secondary day school. The school prides itself of its small class sizes and semi-rural location. It has an emphasis on inquiry-based learning and developing imagination and creativity.

Pre Service Teacher & Relief Teacher

Good Shepherd Lutheran College
03.2010 - 12.2010
  • I completed my university practicum at Good Shepherd Lutheran College from April-October 2010 and then stayed on as a relief teacher once I graduated until December 2010. Under the guidance of my wonderful mentor teacher, I taught a Transition class, known as Prep in QLD. I designed and implemented lessons for the students and assessed and reported on their progress throughout the year. I also utilised my musical skills to assist with the Primary School Choir. I too assisted with the drama performance and had the opportunity to teach other classes from Years 1-5. I was offered a full-time permanent role once I graduated, but as I was relocating to Sydney the following year, I instead stayed on as a casual teacher prior to my relocation, teaching all year levels.
  • Teaching Environment: Good Shepherd Lutheran College is a Christian Co-educational school located in Darwin and has students from Transition (Kindergarten) to Grade 12 on two campuses. The college is an International Baccalaureate (IB) school so I learnt a lot about inquiry and active learning and incorporated these ideals into my teaching.

Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) Tutor

St John’s College
04.2010 - 11.2010
  • Year 7/8 Class – all subject areas. I worked as an ITAS tutor from April-November 2010 and taught a group of Year 7/8 boarding school students four nights a week. Most of the students were Indigenous and from rural and remote communities. I assisted the students with their homework and designed learning activities and lessons also, with a particular focus on developing their literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Teaching Environment: St John’s College is a Catholic day and boarding school, catering for middle and secondary school students. A large number are indigenous and international students. Most of the indigenous students are boarders who come from rural or remote communities. Often, their literacy and numeracy skills are poor, thus the ITAS government initiative was introduced so that students could have tutoring sessions four nights a week, which were delivered by qualified teachers and student teachers.

Hobbies and Interests

Some of my personal interests include singing, music, pilates, yoga, nature walks with my family, the beach and being a Mum to my two beautiful children Ryder, who is almost 7and Lillie, who is almost 4. I also love spending time with my wonderful family and friends.

Achievements

Recognising the absence of a music-based extracurricular program within the Islamic school environment, I successfully implemented and organised a whole school choir at Malek Fahd Islamic School. This initiative not only introduced students to the joy of music but also fostered a strong sense of community and creativity. The choir quickly gained popularity, resulting in a waitlist—a testament to its impact and appeal.

Key contributions included:

  • Curating and arranging song selections appropriate for the school’s values and student interests
  • Leading weekly after-school rehearsals with students across various year levels
  • Coordinating performances at local festivals and community events to showcase student talent
  • Promoting inclusivity and enthusiasm for music in a culturally respectful setting

This experience built upon my previous leadership role as K–2 Coordinator, further enhancing my confidence and capabilities in:

  • Teaching and curriculum planning
  • Program development and execution
  • Mentoring staff and students
  • Fostering teamwork and collaboration

I am deeply committed to creating environments where every member feels valued, respected, and inspired to contribute. The choir initiative exemplifies how shared passion and teamwork can transform a school culture and enrich student experiences.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

I believe it is vitally important as teachers to be lifelong learners and to continually update our knowledge and awareness of educational trends. Thus, I regularly take part in many professional development opportunities. I am also currently completing a certificate in early childhood education online, which complements my skills, experience and passion for the early years of schooling.
