Research History

  • Mater Hospital is a site for the BEAT-CF clinical trial examining the medical management of exacerbations of cystic fibrosis. I have been responsible for the physiotherapy data collection.
  • Site lead for an ACU honours student project proposed to commence in April 2024. It will examine the feasibility of using EIT to measure the effectiveness of a single session of airway clearance in patients diagnosed with bronchiectasis.
  • Expert advisor to UQ Master of Physiotherapy Studies students in semester 1 2020, for their cardiorespiratory research project: systematic review - For patients who have received abdominal surgery, what is the effect of non-invasive ventilation on post-operative complications?
  • ICEAGE (Incidence of Complications following Emergency Abdominal surgery: Get Exercising): Patient screening, assessments, and interventions for a multi-centre randomised control trial.
  • Co-investigator - Early warning signs of post-operative pulmonary complications following abdominal surgery: data cleansing, statistical analysis, review of abstracts and produced posters for ANZCA and 2018 QCRPN conference. Contributing author for an abstract presented by Claire Hackett at 2017 APA Conference Sydney – abstract awarded best paper (Jill Nosworthy).
  • Key role in the development, pilot trial, and evaluation of a preoperative physiotherapy service for patients undergoing elective upper abdominal and prostate surgery at Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2020.
