This role reports to the Perioperative Services Manager and is responsible for an active team of instrument technicians. The Manager is responsible for overall coordination and management of the systems supporting the operational functions of the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) including; cleaning, sorting, disinfecting, inspecting, packing, sterilisation and storage of all reusable surgical and medical instruments / equipment. Also is responsible for management of loan kits and for Operating Theatre and CSSD sterile stock supply's.
This role also involves management of department roster, staff daily allocations, staff development, department budget and recruitment as well as providing training, direction and supervision of staff whilst participating and leading the team in all aspects of the department’s activities.
This role was responsible for the management, assessment and booking of patients on the elective waiting list at Northeast Health (NHW) The role included the provision of accurate and timely information to patients, carers and relevant departments within the hospital and NHW external services. The role incorporated pre-admission assessment, education, procedure booking and written/oral notification at each stage throughout the elective admission process.
A commitment to patient centred care and a focus on the patient’s journey was required to ensure the right care was provided at the right time and place. Clear and effective communication was required to ensure cohesion of different departments and success with all patient planned surgeries.
This role also ensured that the guidelines of Elective Surgery Information System were adhered to at all times.
