Cassius Kennell

In 2021 I completed Year 10 at Alyangula School. It was planned that I would undertake my Higher School Certificate at boarding school in Cairns. However, because of Covid this never came about.

By saving money earned while working with the Eylandt Cleanup Crew Cleanup I self-funded my own recording studio and worked fulltime writing and producing my own music for most of 2022. During that time, I wrote and recorded and produced over 200 songs. I had some success with two tracks which I published on Sound Cloud, with one receiving over twenty thousand plays, and another nearly eight thousand plays.

Unfortunately, I discovered that music is a difficult industry in which to make a career and a living. During that time, I made less than $1000 dollars for all my hard work.

Although I have not given up on that dream, I know I must now look at alternatives for making a career for myself.

In April and May of 2023, I undertook a six-week block of Work Experience with Fitzgerald Housing in Pyrmont, Sydney. I have attached a reference from the Sales Director of that company.

That experience allowed me to get some really good training and skills, especially using computers. I was given a full induction and supervised and mentored every day. I believe that I respond best to that sort of one on one mentorship, and I work best when given a task that is clearly defined in terms of process, deadlines and the expected outcome.

In the short term I am seeking any job I can get my hands on. In the medium to long term, I am seeking employment that would give me skills and qualifications which I could use off Groote Eylandt.
