through to elderly age appropriate health checks, chronic disease management, care plan coordination and allied health referrals. This role also assisted me to develop my ability to work both independently and as part of a team where required.
Working as a registered nurse in a 52 bed ward comprising of rehabilitation, medical and surgical beds. Through this role I was able to develop skills in post-operative nursing, including surgical drain and wound management. This role also gave me the opportunity to reiterate and expand my knowledge of general medical and geriatric nursing. Whilst at Shellharbour Private Hospital I was also regularly required to be after hours nurse in charge, which allowed me to further develop my leadership and critical thinking skills.
Working in a rural hospital, in both the emergency department and the medical ward which comprised of four cardiac monitored beds, one mental health bed, one palliative care bed and twelve general medical beds, allowing me to develop and foster a broad nursing skillset. I was regularly the nurse in-charge, both during the day and after hours, where I collaborated, communicated and delegated effectively with all members of nursing staff and the multidisciplinary team, as well as escalated the care of critically unwell patients.
Whilst at Corowa I also gained experience working in the hospitals theatre, primarily in the post anaesthetic recovery unit and in an aged care facility attached to the hospital.
