Cecilia Riebl

As Trust for Nature's dedicated policy advisor, I have led a range of projects aimed at improving conservation outcomes on private land. These include successfully advocating for tax reform to remove barriers to permanently protecting nature, incentivising conservation on farming land using a range of financial tools including branding and carbon markets, and identifying accounting mechanisms to measure and monetise on-ground benefits of ecosystem services. I work extensively with a broad range of stakeholders, including conservation and primary production landholders, investors, financial institutions, academics, Aboriginal Victorians and all levels of government. I routinely prepare clear, concise submissions and reports, and have led the development of the organisations' strategic plan.

• Managed a team of six staff, reporting directly to the CEO
• Led the Education team, which develops and delivers programs to Judges, Magistrates and VCAT Members
• Worked extensively with stakeholders, including the judiciary, in the development of College programs and initiatives, and managed budgets for their delivery

• Led amendments to key integrity legislation
• Provided legal, policy and strategic advice to the Victorian Attorney-General
• Drafted instructions for Bills and Cabinet submissions

• Drafted submissions, reports and issues papers in relation to proposed amendments to laws and policies
• Consulted regularly with key industry stakeholders
• Ran workshops and gave public presentations

• Acted on a range of both advisory and litigious matters, including drafting complex advices, briefing and instructing counsel, and maintaining regular client contact
• Managed several significant pro bono advices, in partnership with the Human Rights Law Centre
• Undertook an internship at Youthlaw where I represented underprivileged youth in the courts.

• Trial management, legal research and writing, liaising with parties and litigants.
• Court liaison for various external bodies including the Attorney General, Governor General and a range of statutory agencies, speech writing for the Chief Justice’s regular public and Court engagements, and chairing Associates’ meetings with a view to improving Court administration and culture.

• Worked for the family wine business as marketing manager, making sales and dealing with exports
• Involved with a range of farm management activities, including Landcare revegetation projects
