• Working with the Forensic Hospital Service Director and the Clinical Director as a representative on forensic mental health nursing.
• Involved in the Forensic Hospital administrative services including strategic planning, financial performance, policy and governance, and workforce matters.
• Taking lead in the day-to-day nursing operations of the Forensic Hospital in alignment with the relevant models of care and ensure the application of NSW Ministry of Health and Justice Health NSW policy and guidelines; and support the development of hospital policy and specialist practices.
• Promote a safety culture within the hospital to ensure the monitoring of clinical risks, safety protocols and Work Health Safety systems are consistent and complied with across the hospital.
• Support the Service Director and General Manager to manage and direct the implementation of change within the Forensic Mental Health System, workplace culture, processes, specialist practices, staff and resourcing to help sustain these changes to meet established strategic deliverables, especially in relation to Nursing.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders, including judicial bodies, the Ministry, and Local Health Districts, to best support the General Manager for Mental Health.
• Ensure and lead quality improvement and governance activities, especially for nursing services across the Forensic Hospital, to have it remain a Centre of excellence; and support research, training and teaching programs across the hospital to support its specialist model of care.
• Promote and model professional leadership for nursing staff and ensure clinical and managerial supervision is in place for all nursing staff within the Forensic Hospital.
• Lead and promote a patient/consumer focus, ensure patient advocacy systems are in place, and ensure greater involvement of patients in their care planning.
• Lead developments in forensic mental health and implement programs and activities.
• Management and resolution of human resource and industrial relations matters in a complex and highly specialised health environment.
• Managing a challenging workload with competing priorities, including balancing therapeutic aspects of nursing care with patient and staff safety within the Forensic Hospital.
• Support and enhance a culture of safety and reduction of restrictive practices, clinical innovation and quality, evidence-based care.
