I am a dedicated and compassionate professional with a twenty three year progressive career history in paediatric and family health nursing. I am able to work with a diverse patient population of all ages. I have experience working in multiple areas including special care nursery, acute medical, surgical and mental health settings. I enjoy working along-side clients and their families as part of a collaborative team in order to improve health outcomes. I have shown myself capable of remaining calm under pressure and skillfully handling difficult clients under high stress situations. Skilled in managing teams, implementing individual care plans for multiple clients. I am able to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients and their families through empathic and respectful communication.
I found my passion for paediatric nursing early in my career working on the child and adolescent ward at the Launceston General Hospital. Working along-side clients and their families to provide efficient and timely care proved to be my greatest joy.
I then broadened my skills and knowledge by completing my Child and Family Health studies at the University of Tasmania.
As my career progressed, I moved to Hobart where I worked in the special care nursery and then later on the Child and Adolescent ward at the Royal Hobart Hospital. Here I discovered a passion for adolescent mental health nursing.
Most recently I have been working at the Mother Baby Unit at St Helen's private hospital. Working beside vulnerable mothers and their families to adjust to parenting. Supporting and educating with feeding, sleeping and settling difficulties.
As a registered nurse within the mother baby unit I help to provide care and support families experiencing ante-natal and post-natal difficulties. Some of these difficulties may include: chronic maternal illness, antenatal and post natal depression, feeding difficulties, infant sleeping difficulties, unsettled babies and issues with reflux or colic.
In permanent pool working on a variety of wards. Some of these include; Children's ward, special care nursery, surgical ward, oncology ward, Old person's unit, Medical specialties and Assessment and planning unit.
The Paediatric ward is a secure 17 bed unit that remains locked at all times for the safety of the children and their families. It accommodates babies, children and adolescents from one week of age up to eighteen years. The paediatric unit works from the philosophy of child focused care, with the family being the centre of that child's world.
As a member of this ward my role as a registered nurse is to provide comprehensive, safe, timely and appropriate family based care in order to strengthen health outcomes to patients and their families.
Key responsibilities include:
Work with other members of the health care team to plan, implement and evaluate appropriate nursing care
To practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia codes and guidelines, adhering to relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
Involve patients and their families in the planning and implementation of the their health care needs.
