Summary

I am a descendant of the Gudang Yadhaykenu people from far north Queensland on my maternal line of my grandfather and also a descendant of the stolen generation peoples of Boorooloola on my maternal lines who were removed during the era of the Aborigines Protection Board to Mapoon Mission in Weipa during the 1930’s and this was my mother’s birthplace.


All throughout my childhood and still today, I observe the detrimental impacts of the colonisation process on my large extended family and have developed a deeper understanding of how this now affects our young people today.


I am extremely passionate about ensuring our young people today embrace the opportunities that are available to them always honouring the voice of our ancestors.


My strong focus is on team collaboration, adapting to changing needs, and achieving results. Skilled in troubleshooting, communication, and conflict resolution. Known for reliability, problem-solving, and customer-centric approach.

Cultural Support Specialist

  • Have lead the development and delivery of cultural support plans for children and young people in out-of-home care, in consultation and partnership with children and young people, families, community and a multidisciplinary team.
  • Have regular consultation with intake team, review referrals for placements and provide recommendations about cultural support needs for carers and young people at entry to service.
  • Attend case/care planning meetings and review meetings to ensure that cultural support plan goals are being included, supported and reviewed with other case/care plan goals.
  • Where applicable, be a part of Winangay kinship assessments to assist and/or facilitate learning sessions to determine kinship care authorisation.
  • Where applicable, provide cultural consultation with carer assessors to determine if potential carer/meet criteria and undertake step by step 5 Aboriginal cultural competency component.
  • Participate on care and intake panels as an Aboriginal Independent Panel Member to provide cultural advice and recommendations.
  • Participated in pre-service training to provide care applicants with information around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture - cultural responsibility of carers.
  • Provide feedback to carer assessors around participation and observations made during training.
  • Attended home visits to provide cultural support to children, young people and carers as required. Provide carers with age-appropriate resources and information to increase a young person’s connection to culture, and feelings of safety.
